It is within reason to expect calls to start this week for the next session of training at the Foreign Service Institute in DC — also known as the A-100 class. Though the official word is after May 12, calls did start going out around this time last year. Also, with my ranking in the upper third of the register, it is also possible that I could have a place in this class or the one directly after it, based on the experiences of other FSOs on a “support” group on Yahoo that I belong to.
Therefore, I apologize in advance if any half-crazed ramblings or other offhand references to “Sister Act” actually make it up on here in the ensuing weeks.
EDIT: Looks like I’m not the only person in WNC beating their head against a wall. My rank has slipped FOUR PLACES. I think I’m going to pick up some Arabic. Who’s with me?
EDIT 2: Perhaps I’ll hope for a call for the September class, instead. A couple folks managed to leap-frog their way up the list using the ever-handy language bonus awarded for passing a language test administered by phone. As a result, I imagine my rank is one or two spots further down. My French is rustier than I thought, but hopefully some serious practice time might net me a passing score myself — and the ranking boost to go along with it.
